Recently, our sixth graders experienced and participated in the Purdue Nutrition Education Program. The Purdue Extension Nutrition Education Program (NEP) works to improve the nutrition and health of audiences in Indiana. Students learned about: Nutrition, Food safety, Food security (hunger), Physical activity, and Food resource management (stretching food dollars). The Nutrition Education Program has existed in Indiana since 1994 as a part of Purdue Extension and funded by multiple federal funding streams. We are thrilled our sixth graders received this experience and we look forward to future years in partnership with Purdue Extension Nutrition Education Program. #WeAreSteelCityStrong

We're wrapping up the year with our December Attendance incentive for ALL Steel City students 🔥 In order to be eligible, K-12 students need to have perfect attendance from December 4th-December 15th, meaning no absences (whether excused or unexcused), no tardiness, and no early dismissals. Our Steel City National Honor Society has been hard at work volunteering to make a positive community impact 🔥
The National Honor Society volunteered for three hours at the Northwest Indiana Food Bank, where they assembled over 100 boxes to support hunger relief programs that supply meals to individuals of all ages in the Northwest Indiana area. This month they also joined forces in a highway cleanup initiative along our Adopt-A-Highway on County Line Road and US 12. We extend our gratitude to Coach Kelly and the members of the Recruiting and Retention Battalion for their invaluable help and support to make this possible!
