Yesterday, our entire K–12 Steel City community came together to celebrate a big moment—100 days of learning, growing, and showing up for one another. 💙🔥 That’s 100 days together. 100 days smarter. 100 days stronger.
From creative math challenges and hands-on activities to iconic outfits, our halls were filled with joy, laughter, and learning all day long. These moments remind us that school is more than lessons - it’s about community, joy, and celebrating milestones side by side. On Wednesday, February 12th, Steel City Academy will transform into the ultimate dance floor from 5:00–7:30 PM as our middle schoolers come together for an evening filled with music, movement, and memories that will last long after the last song plays.
Students are encouraged to dress to impress in their best formal looks and let their personal style shine ✨. With a live DJ bringing the energy, a photobooth to capture the fun, and refreshments to keep everyone going, this is a night you won’t want to miss.

They’ve tracked water movement in plants using celery 🌱, explored the effects of transpiration, and most recently… extracted DNA from a strawberry 🍓🧬 Shout out to Ms. Brown, our HS Science Teacher, for bringing these labs to life!

That’s exactly what our students are helping build with Colors of Culture: A Celebration of Black Creativity — Through the Lens of Our Youth.

Steel City Academy has been awarded a Food Access Program Grant through the City of Gary Government, with food assistance provided in partnership with the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana 💙🔥
This grant will allow us to expand access to nutritious food for our students and families — both during the school day and beyond our school walls, supporting academic success, health, and overall well-being across our community.

Steel City Academy has been awarded a Food Access Program Grant through the City of Gary Government, with food assistance provided in partnership with the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana 💙🔥
This grant will allow us to expand access to nutritious food for our students and families — both during the school day and beyond our school walls, supporting academic success, health, and overall well-being across our community.

We are so happy to welcome our students back this quarter—and we’re still smiling thinking about the festive holiday season at Steel City. ✨🔥💙
At Steel City, we believe deeply in creating core memories where our students truly get to be kids and experience immense joy. One of our favorite traditions is our annual Toy Giveaway for all of our elementary students—making sure every child gets their own mini shopping spree to pick out toys to take home for the holidays from their Steel City family 🧸🎁
Every cafeteria table was overflowing with toys, and our students’ smiles said it all! We even sprinkled in a little extra magic with a visit from our very own Santa and Elf 🎅🏽🧝🏽♀️✨
A HUGE shoutout to Coach Kelly for bringing this incredible experience to life year after year—driving from store to store to make sure our students feel celebrated and loved. 💙🔥 And thank you to National Honor Society and our upperclassmen for setting up the magic and making the day so special for our little kiddos. 🫶🏽
