Our incredible staff dove deep into analyzing last year’s data and rolling out this year’s Big Rocks to ensure we are at our best for our students. We internalized standards, strengthened our mathematical conceptual understanding, engaged in powerful Squad sessions, and continued building the strong relationships that make our team unstoppable! 💙
We also had the joy of welcoming all of our parents and students for grade band orientations and registrations, setting the stage for a successful start to the year.
This is going to be the best year yet… #BELIEVE 🔥💫

Steel City Academy is thrilled to launch an incredible new opportunity for our 6th–8th grade students in partnership with This Is Gary! 🏙️
🎙️ What’s it all about? 🎙️ Students will become student journalists—interviewing former alumni and staff from the historic Lincoln Achievement Center and Duncan Elementary as we prepare to bring these buildings back to life in the historic Midtown neighborhood. Through storytelling, they’ll help preserve the rich history of our city and sharpen their writing and communication skills!

This week, members of our Student Government 🏛️ attended the Diversity and Inclusion 🫱🏾🫲🏼Symposium held by the Urban League of Northwest Indiana 🖤 at Valparaiso University! 🤎💛 While in attendance, students engaged in conversations 🗣️ on this year's topic: "What is DEI and What is Not?" Congratulations 🎉 to students Nate McClain, Cherish Douglas, Niya Lucas, and Cory McClain for contributing to such an important 🚨 conversation on behalf of Steel City and Ms. Moss for organizing this experience! 💙⚙️🔥
Yesterday our 2nd graders experienced an incredible field trip 🚌 to the Chicago Auditorium Theater 🏙️🎭 to watch a performance by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater! 💃🏿🕺🏾2nd graders were treated two selections, "Ailey Classics" and "Revelations." Afterwards they received a signed poster and got to meet one of the senior company members, Renaldo Maurice, a Gary native 📍 who danced with our very own Ms. Arthur in middle school and high school! 🤩 A huge shoutout to Ms. Arthur for her work planning this field trip and making the performing arts 🎭💃🏿🎼 come alive for our 2nd graders! 💙⚙️🔥 #TransformativeExperiences #BoundlessOpportunities #CommittedToGary

Yesterday, Steel City freshmen visited the Chicago Shakespeare Theater 🏙️ 🎭 on Navy Pier 🛳️ , where they watched a modern interpretation of "A Midsummer’s Night Dream." 🌙 💭👏🏾 Some sophomores even tagged along after having a great experience last year! 😍
Through the student-friendly performance 🤓 and the Q&A 🙋🏾♂️ with the cast, the trip was an amazing opportunity to enhance the study of Shakespeare 📜 and to get a closer look 👀 at what careers in the performing arts could look like. Quite a few Steel City students can envision themselves on stage one day and were eager to learn more! 🤩
After the show, students enjoyed lunch 🍴on the pier with a view of the Chicago skyline 🏙️ — some of them, taking one final bow! 💙⚙️🔥 Thank you to Ms. Dzwonczyk for making the special experience happen for our freshmen!
