Steel City families, as our community continues recovering from last weekās storms, flooding, power outages, and damage, we want to make sure you know about additional resources now available to Hoosiers.
The State of Indiana is sharing support for families who may need:
š Temporary Housing Assistance
Grants may be available to help eligible families transition into temporary housing, including hotels or apartments. Call 211 for assistance.
šµ Up to $5,000 in Emergency Assistance
Indianaās State Disaster Relief Fund may provide grants of up to $5,000 for eligible Hoosiers needing help with basic needs such as food, clothing, and more. Call 211 for information.
š„« Replacement SNAP Benefits
Families who lost food because of the storms or extended power outages may qualify for replacement SNAP benefits. Please note that requests should be submitted within 10 days of the loss through the FSSA Benefits Portal or by calling 1-888-436-9199.
šļø Property Damage & Local Resources
Call 211 to report damage and get connected with resources for food, shelter, cleanup supplies, emotional support, and other needs.
ā¤ļø Emergency Shelter Assistance
Emergency shelter resources are also available through Indiana 211 and the American Red Cross.

We are currently planning to welcome ALL K-12 students back to Steel City on Wednesday, August 19 at 7:50 AM. Teachers and staff will return on Tuesday, August 18th to ensure classrooms, lessons and the school is ready to welcome students back.
š„ There will be NO late start on Wednesday. School will begin at 7:50 AM for all students.
Our team will continue monitoring conditions throughout the weekend and into early next week. We will communicate with families immediately if anything changes.

At this time, Steel City Academy remains without power. We are continuing to monitor conditions closely and will make an announcement by 4:00 PM today regarding school tomorrow, Thursday, August 13.
In the meantime, we wanted to share the attached City of Gary Emergency Resources information with our families. If you are without power or in need of additional support, the YWCA of Gary, 150 W. 15th Avenue, is serving as an emergency shelter and resource location. Power, Health Department support, 311 services, and food for the first 200 people are available.
Please continue to stay safe, avoid downed power lines and impacted areas whenever possible, and take care of one another. We will continue to share information and resources as they become available.

We wanted to provide an important update following todayās severe weather. Due to the continued power outage at our building, along with conditions and ongoing cleanup throughout our neighborhood and the City of Gary, Steel City Academy will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, August 12th. There will be no school for students or staff.
Pending the successful restoration of power, we plan to reopen on Thursday, August 13th, when we will welcome our 7th-12th grade students for their first day of school and celebrate our first full day together as a K-12 school! š„
We will continue to provide updates throughout the day tomorrow and will communicate any changes as soon as possible.
