At Steel City Academy, literacy is at the heart of our mission to empower young minds. While we donāt have a library due to limited space, weāre determined to make books accessible to all our students throughout the building.
Thatās why weāre launching the "Nook for Every Book" campaign! Our goal is to raise $7,000 to bring a Book Nook vending machine to our school. This innovative book-dispensing machine will inspire a lifelong love for reading while rewarding students for positive behavior, academic achievement, and acts of kindness.

š„ Thanks to the tireless efforts of our phenomenal attendance teamāwho provide regular communications, family wraparound services, and exciting student incentivesāand the incredible school culture weāve built, where kids love to come to school (from engaging classrooms and passionate extracurriculars to transformative field trips), weāve seen tremendous growth in just one quarter:
āØ Perfect attendance skyrocketed from 23% in Q1 to an amazing 58% in Q2!
āØ Students meeting the attendance goal of 92% days present jumped from 69% to 81%!

Semester 1 is officially in the books š and winter break is here! āļø Reminder that Steel City Academy will be on winter break from December 20 - January 5. š Students will have an asynchronous learning š¤ day on Monday, January 6 as well as Parent-Teacher Conferences š£ļø. Students will return to in-person learning on Tuesday, January 7. The main office will be open on December 20, 23, 26, and 27th from 9 AM - 3 PM. At Steel City we believe š£ļø that giving back and being involved š«±š¾āš«²šæ in our community šļø is an integral part of the student experience. Our National Honor Society members chose to give back to the community during this holiday season by visiting the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. šš„š Students packed over 420 bags for the food bank's mobile š market, which travels to a different Northwest Indiana community each week to provide healthy foods for those in need of food assistance. Students also delivered items collected from the Steel City Student Government's November food drive!
