Our girls played their HEARTS OUT this week in their first game of the season! After missing several weeks of practice because of the derecho and school closures, we were wildly impressed by the way they showed up and competed.

š FEMA INDIVIDUAL ASSISTANCE
Great news for our community! Following the Major Disaster Declaration, FEMA applications are now open for eligible Lake County residents impacted by the August storms. Assistance may be available for housing, home repairs, personal property and other disaster-related needs.
š SNAP FOOD REPLACEMENT | DEADLINE AUGUST 31
If you currently receive SNAP benefits and lost food because of the storms or power outages, you may be eligible to have those benefits replaced. The application period has been extended through August 31, 2026.
š„¦ FREE FOOD DISTRIBUTION | AUGUST 27
Calumet Township is hosting a free drive-through food distribution for Gary and unincorporated Calumet Township residents. Registration begins at 8:00 AM and distribution at 9:00 AM, while supplies last.

Gary residents can receive free bottled water at the City Life Center of Northwest Indiana from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
ā” WEATHERHEAD REPAIR ASSISTANCE
Legacy Foundation is offering assistance to City of Gary homeowners whose electrical weatherheads were damaged during the storms. There is no household income requirement, and eligible repairs will be completed through participating licensed and insured electricians.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to our partners at Incandescent Transportation, who took the time to drive all of our bus routes over the weekend and today to ensure they can be safely run before we welcome students back on Tuesday, August 25! We are happy to share that all routes can run successfully, and morning pick-up times will remain as shared during registration.
As a reminder, please have your student at their stop at least 10 minutes before their scheduled pick-up time and remain there for up to 10 minutes after the scheduled time, especially during these first few weeks as routes and timing become solidified. Do not forget that students are not allowed to ride the bus without their ID.

Trae Tha Truth & Relief Gang, in partnership with Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church, are bringing an entire 18-wheeler full of supplies to Gary for a FREE community relief distribution.

Beginning today, Thursday, August 20, meal service has moved to the City Life Center, 225 W. 5th Ave.

š Monday, August 24: All K-12 students return to school
As we have all experienced throughout the past week, this timeline is tentative and dependent upon power restoration. We will continue to share updates as soon as we receive new information.
We know these days have been incredibly difficult for our families and our community. Please know that we are here for you. We will continue sharing community resources on our Facebook and Instagram pages, and we encourage families to reach out if there is anything we can do to support you.
