A HUGE thank you to Principal Pratt, Coach Kelly, Mr. Moore, Mama Moore, Ms. Renee, Mr. Stevens, and Ms. Kirley for spending today reaching out to every family who completed our Steel City Family Support Survey. Because of their incredible teamwork, 100% of the families who shared a need with us were contacted and able to receive supplies through delivery and/or pickup based on their individual needs. š„āļø
And none of this would be possible without the incredible generosity of our donors, partners, friends, and Steel City supporters. Every case of water, bag of groceries, cleaning product, toiletry item, monetary donation, and other resource has gone directly toward helping our families navigate these truly unprecedented days. We are so incredibly grateful. š
This weekend, our team will be taking inventory of our remaining supplies and placing another order to replenish what our families need most, including food, water, cleaning supplies, toiletries, and household essentials. We will also be stocking up on school supplies as we prepare to welcome our kids back to Steel City next week! š„

The State of Indiana is sharing support for families who may need:
š Temporary Housing Assistance
Grants may be available to help eligible families transition into temporary housing, including hotels or apartments. Call 211 for assistance.
šµ Up to $5,000 in Emergency Assistance
Indianaās State Disaster Relief Fund may provide grants of up to $5,000 for eligible Hoosiers needing help with basic needs such as food, clothing, and more. Call 211 for information.
š„« Replacement SNAP Benefits
Families who lost food because of the storms or extended power outages may qualify for replacement SNAP benefits. Please note that requests should be submitted within 10 days of the loss through the FSSA Benefits Portal or by calling 1-888-436-9199.

Call 211 to report damage and get connected with resources for food, shelter, cleanup supplies, emotional support, and other needs.

At this time, Steel City Academy remains without power. We are continuing to monitor conditions closely and will make an announcement by 4:00 PM today regarding school tomorrow, Thursday, August 13.
In the meantime, we wanted to share the attached City of Gary Emergency Resources information with our families. If you are without power or in need of additional support, the YWCA of Gary, 150 W. 15th Avenue, is serving as an emergency shelter and resource location.
