🚜 Fair Oaks Farm provided an amazing experience and was able to spread so much #joy to our K-2 students with a facilitated tour around their farm 🚜 Students were able to learn the different life stages of animals as well as see them live in action. We thank the parents, student chaperones, and staff for coming out with our K-2 students. We're back with another college tour! 🔥 Much gratitude and a huge shout out to our College & Career team for giving our Juniors the experience of visiting a range of colleges and universities this semester. This week is Purdue University and Indiana University Northwest College, where students were able to learn more about majors that are offered and visit a few of the many different colleges within. #SafetyHumanConnectionLearning 📚👣

As a reminder, students are able to enter the building between 7:50AM and 8:00AM. School begins at 8:00AM and school is dismissed at 3:00PM.🚌Students who arrive to school after 8:00AM are considered tardy. At Steel City, every month we intentionally select a core value and aligned action to prioritize for our staff and create experiences to allow spaces to embody the value 🔥 As we inch closer to Spring Break and embark upon the craziness of testing season, we selected the JOY core value for March: specifically finding joy in the work we do and who we do it with! It's March Madness Time at Steel City Academy!🏀💙🏀💙 Our incredible 5th & 6th Grade Humanities teacher- Ms. Harrell- created a stunning "Tournament of Books" Bulletin Board where students vote each round on their favorite book 📚 What started as the Elite 8 quickly went down to the Final Four and now students are voting on the Book Champion Today!📚What a creative and interactive way to bring our Literacy Strategic Priority to LIFE!🔥 #WeAreSteelCityStrong

Dear Steel City Academy, For years, families, students and staff have welcomed the first snow day of the year with immense JOY! Yet after COVID and the adoption of E Learning Days, this is a joy that many school communities sadly no longer get to experience. Sleeping in, drinking hot chocolate, playing out in the snow, cozying up with your favorite book, taking a midday nap as the snow comes down! For all of these reasons and more, Steel City Academy will have NO SCHOOL tomorrow, Friday, March 3rd in honor of the 1st snow day of the year. The building will be closed for students and staff and there will be no E Learning. We plan to return on Monday, March 6th to get back to the most important work: learning! We couldn't end Black History Month without giving a shout-out to our first-grade teacher, Ms. Larkins, and paraprofessional, Ms. B Ringo! Yesterday our Steel City Sophomores and Juniors attended the Indiana University Northwest Possibility Summit! Our students had the opportunity to hear from and meet the Re-imagine Gary Mayor Prince, meet representatives from post secondary institutions and tour the IUN Campus! 🎓❤️ A few of our brilliant students even went home with a few prizes! 🔥 #WeAreSteelCityStrong #TransformativeExperiences

🚨 This week Officers, Lt. Farrow and Sgt. We are so grateful for an incredible donation from the Enchanted Backpack that filled our cafeteria with school and personal supplies for our students, families and staff! 📝 Our staff felt like it was Christmas this morning as they shopped for additional supplies and gifts for their students, as our Culture Team created care packages for multiple families! Today marks National Bus Driver Appreciation Day 🚌 We are so grateful to partner with Incandescent Transportation Solutions and work with a phenomenal team of bus drivers. At Steel City we deeply believe in providing all of our students quality, grade level instruction AND educational experiences! 🎓 🧑🏾‍🔬 👩🏽‍🔬 Thanks to the incredible Mrs. Combs for writing a STEM Acceleration Grant for new lab equipment AND Ms. Brown for her engaging lab planning and execution🔥 As a result of their hard work, our High School Biology students are wearing their full lab outfits and engaging in inquiry based science labs to study the effects of fertilizer on algae!
